Why You Should Consider Lease-To-Purchase Trucking

Select One Inc. is a trucking company that supplies over-the-road refrigerated truckload carriers. Based in Channahon, IL, the company boasts of one of the best truck service responses in North America. Select One Inc. also offers lease-to-purchase trucking deals to interested clients.

The cost of owning new trucks is becoming increasingly expensive for middle-income households to afford. So, most people are increasingly opting for lease-to-own trucking. Lease to own trucking refers to a contractual agreement where the lessor or owner of the truck leases the truck to the lessee and gives them (the lessee) the option to purchase the truck upon the expiration of the lease agreement.

While the depreciation of purchasing a new truck might be on you, lease to buy trucking takes the burden of depreciation of the truck off the lessee and places it on the lessor.

Lease-to-purchase trucking also does not require a lot of capital investment. The immediate amount you expend in purchasing a new truck is substantially higher compared to lease-to-purchase trucking.

Refrigerated Trucks - A Vital Piece

Formerly located in Channahon, IL, Select One Inc. has established a reputation as a leading refrigerated carrier in high-density areas of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, South, and Southeast United States. Select One Inc. offers load tracking services to ensure safe, reliable delivery of perishable goods in refrigerated trucks.

According to industry estimates, refrigerated freight transportation will move more than three billion pounds of produce over the next several years. Climate controlled shipping plays an essential role in the supply chain, as incorrect temperatures can quickly damage an entire shipment and contribute to multi-billion-dollar losses for producers and carriers. Additionally, refrigerated shipping prevents food from bacterial and fungal contamination.

This “cold chain” requires complex logistics to ensure perishable items maintain their integrity. Producers need to consider the distance products must travel, as well as the equipment necessary to handle frozen products. Additionally, they must plan and organize shipments so that food does not spend too much time unrefrigerated, for example when it is being transferred from warehouse to truck. By choosing a reputable carrier, producers can meet the increasing demand for frozen goods while adhering to public safety standards and government regulations.

Temperature Controlled Transportation

A Channahon, IL company, Select One, Inc. is a company that provides trucking services and lease purchase deals for clients that want to acquire trucks. Select One, Inc. also offers customer-focused transportation and ships sensitive products and goods through temperature-controlled transportation.

Temperature-controlled transportation is a way of shipping sensitive products and requires to be held in specific temperatures and climates. For example, when a customer orders a sensitive product, such as flowers, it is the trucking company’s goal and responsibility to keep the flowers fresh until they arrive at the customer. To keep products at the proper temperature, the refrigerated trucks benefit from cooler systems that either cool the products or keep them at room temperature.

Temperature-controlled transportation services are highly beneficial as they can prevent people and businesses from throwing away goods that may be damaged because of the climate. It is mainly used to ship goods and perishable items in nearby areas. Another benefit of these services is that shipments occur quickly, and people do not have to wait a lot for the items.

Benefits of Hiring a Reefer Truck

A privately owned trucking company in McCook, IL, Select One, Inc., primarily operates east of the Rockies. Select One, Inc., maintains a modern fleet to provide efficient freight solutions, including refrigerated trucks, or trailers, also called “reefers.”

Reefers are used to transport perishable goods. Here are three reasons why hiring a reefer truck is advantageous.

Thermostat-equipped
Many consumer products have strict FDA requirements, such as temperature consistency. With a reefer, the driver is in complete control of the truck’s thermostat. Modern trucks are typically equipped with an overnight standby mode that helps to keep the internal climate consistent overnight or over long distances.

Increased efficiency
Besides being temperature sensitive, many perishables generally tend to have limited shelf lives. This makes fast and timely deliveries critical. Experienced trucking companies ensure efficient routing by fitting their fleets with GPS systems.

Versatility in delivery
Refrigerated trucks are versatile, no matter your industry or the size of your cargo. Because they are equipped with temperature control, reefers can deliver different products including highly perishable items like flowers.

How to Become a Certified Truck Driver

Select One, Inc. is a family-owned reefer company founded in 2014. Based in McCook, IL, Select One, Inc. primarily operates east of The Rockies. The company has built successful business relationships with owner-operated truck drivers.

Getting started as a truck driver isn't as difficult as many think. The first step is earning a Class A commercial driver's license (or CDL). This license is necessary for all tractor-trailer driving positions.

To obtain the Class A CDL criteria, the candidate must be 21 or older and must hold a commercial learner's permit (CLP) for a minimum of 14 days before obtaining the CDL. To get a CLP, the candidate must possess a valid driver's license, pass an exam covering fundamental trucking skills and knowledge, and pay a fee.

Before obtaining the CDL, the candidate must first obtain the CLP and pass a road skills test. There are several ways to earn CDL practice hours on the road to gain the experience required to pass the exam. The first is to attend a truck driving school. These programs are usually at community institutions and cost money.

Another possibility is to enroll in a truck driving program hosted through transportation companies and comparatively cheaper. With some of these programs, the companies guarantee job opportunities post-completion of the CDL training.

Dealing with Empty Backhaul Miles

Select One, Inc. is a trucking company based in Alsip, IL. It focuses on high-density lanes across the United States. Primarily, Select One, Inc. operates east of the Rockies. One of the services offered by the company is freight transport.

Driving an empty truck when returning from delivery not only leads to lost revenue but is unsustainable. Unfortunately, a sizeable number of dedicated and private fleets have no alternative but to drive empty backhaul miles.

Data from the Department of Transport indicates that about 20 percent of the miles are driven during empty truck backhauls. Backhaul miles refer to the return trip a truck has to make after delivery. In most cases, these are covered with no cargo and are traditionally known as empty miles.

Truck carriers and freight brokers have traditionally tried to reduce the empty miles by scheduling individual pickups and drop-offs, but this has proved time-consuming, unwieldy, and often highly inefficient.

Freight AI has come up with a natural language AI platform to solve the last mile dilemma for truckers. The platform links with freight databases and communicates and through automated text messages to drivers, so they can conveniently find loads for their backhauls.

Truck Drivers’ Physical and Mental Health

The McCook, IL-based refrigerated freight company Select One Inc. has been operating since 2014. Select One Inc. builds relationships with truck drivers to provide timely and safe service. Here are ways to ensure truck drivers’ physical and mental health.

The working conditions truck drivers face result in unique physical and mental health challenges. A 2018 article in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health discusses the relationship between sleep and mental health disorders. Truck drivers face an increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Mentally, they face issues like prolonged social isolation and a heightened tendency to self-medicate compared to the general population.

Complicating matters is comorbidity, one medical condition that increases the risk of developing another, such as insomnia and depression. About 90 percent of people experiencing insomnia have clinical depression. Additionally, depression is a risk factor for insomnia.

It's important to treat truck drivers’ physical and mental health issues simultaneously. Employers can leave ample time for sleep in their schedules and compensate those who work at night. They can partner with occupational health physicians to educate workers on the effects of poor sleep quality, work performance, and mental health. Incorporating screenings for sleep and mental health disorders can ensure employees’ well-being without incurring significant additional costs.

Purchase Programs Operate in Trucking?

Select One, Inc., is a McCook, IL, freight transport and logistics enterprise with a commitment to superior service. Maintaining a dedicated fleet of late-model tractors with reefers trailers, Select One, Inc., offers contracted drivers lease-to-purchase deals that combine competitive financing with full logistics support.

Lease purchase programs enable independent truck drivers to ultimately become owner-operators. A lease purchase truck driver holds the same basic responsibilities as a company driver. These include delivering a set quota of freight to a specified destination on time and following the safety protocol of the contracting company.

In general, the amount paid for this work is at the higher owner-operator rate, which is designed to accommodate the driver’s fuel, insurance, and repair and maintenance costs. This allows the driver to make agreed-upon lease payments on the vehicle, through the carrier.

One thing to be aware of is that lease operator and lease purchase programs are not the same. The former typically do not have any money-down requirements, and the vehicle is returned to the carrier after the contract ends. Lease purchase agreements, on the other hand, typically involve a substantial down payment coupled with higher continuing payments. The long-term benefit of this more capital-intensive approach is full ownership of the truck when the contract ends.

Factors That Are Affecting Trucking

Select One, Inc. is a trucking company that is based out of McCook, IL. Select One, Inc, along with other companies in the trucking industry, must be aware of major factors influencing their business.

One thing that has always been a factor in trucking is the cost of fuel, which continues to rise over time. With the global push towards renewable energy and resources, fuel prices will not come down and will continue to cost the trucking industry until they adapt.

Trucking is becoming better in ways as well, with urbanization, in general, helping the industry. With more people moving closer to city centers, it is much more efficient and cost-effective for transportation of goods.

Wages and pricing play a crucial role in any industry, but the trucking industry has been below average for many years. With unemployment increasing due to business closures, drivers and other workers are starting to demand more of their efforts. Unfortunately, the market itself will dictate pricing and wages, and it is difficult to predict what will happen.

Trucking Industry's Refrigerated Division

Operating out of McCook, IL, Select One Inc. manages a fleet of long-haul transport trucks and provides exceptional service to clients through load-tracking strategies, consistent communication updates, and 24/7 accessibility. Select One Inc. operates its transport trucks within the refrigerated trucking division.

One of America’s most important trucking divisions, the refrigerated trucking division is responsible for hauling more than 90 percent of American food products. Refrigerated trucks were first used to ship goods in the early 1900s, when they relied on ice blocks to maintain cool temperatures inside them.

By 1940, the first mechanically refrigerated trucks were designed by the US Thermo Control Company and put into use. The technology used to transport goods via refrigerated trucks has developed significantly over time, and now supports the transport of a range of types of cargo, including medications, fruits, vegetables, live animals, flowers, and meat (since refrigerated truck trailer temperatures can be maintained between 55 and -20 degrees Fahrenheit). Refrigerated trailers contain foam insulation and use refrigeration equipment that maintains the truck trailer temperature independently from the truck pulling it.

The Benefits of Full Truckload Shipping

Based in McCook, IL, Select One Inc. is a North American privately owned carrier that provides customers with superior freight services, refrigerated truckload carriers, and full truckload shipping (FTL). Select One Inc. is continually improving their business efficiency and reliability.

FTL shipping is where transported goods occupy the entire space of a truck. FTL is ideal for a shipper who is transporting more than ten pallets of goods. Full truckload shipments remain in the same truck from pickup point until the intended destination. The shipments also face relaxed restrictions on size and weight.

FTL is ideal for time-sensitive shipping of goods since the truck does not stop to pick up or drop off any cargo along the way. This allows for freight companies to plan for efficient routing in order to reduce the delivery time. Cargo transported on a full truckload also is handled less because there is no transfer of goods to other trucks during transit, therefore reducing the possibility of lost or damaged cargo.
